MISSION STATEMENT

The Artisans of Southern Vermont are a group of artists and craftspeople living in the Southwest corner of Vermont. We have joined together in order to draw attention to our region as an area densely populated with dedicated individual artisans.

Our goal is to make Southwestern Vermont a destination area for people seeking hand produced individual art and craft creations and the artisans that produce them.

Our aim is to educate the public not only about the unique beauty of hand made objects but also about the beauty of uniqueness in a world of mass-produced products.

OPEN STUDIO - Fall Foliage

What does a drive in the colorful Vermont landscape
and art have in common?

They are all part of Open Studio Weekend taking place on October 1 and 2 from 10 am until 5 pm.

Yellow signs will mark the way to more than 140 studios and galleries throughout Vermont during this premiere Fall event. You will see the work of glass blowers, jewelers, printmakers, potters, furniture makers, painters, sculptors and more, in their actual workshops. It is a wonderful opportunity to see how artists and artisans live and work in our beautiful state of Vermont.

The Artisans of Southern Vermont, a local group of artists and craftspeople in the southwestern part of the state, have created their own touring map and attached it to the Vermont Crafts Council’s statewide map. The maps will be available at inns, restaurants, artists’ studios and galleries throughout southwestern Vermont, and at the Northshire Bookstore and Epoch Gallery in Manchester. Look for the yellow signs and yellow balloons that will guide you on your way from studio to studio. To see a preview of some of the work on display in the artists’ workshops, go to: www.artisansvt.com

Open Studio in Vermont has a long history. The event, produced by the Vermont Crafts Council, a non-profit organization, has always taken place on Memorial Day weekend and this spring will be there 20th year. Wanting to build on this success, VCC has added this Fall Open Studio to their calendar. Open Studio Weekend is supported by the farmers who own Cabot Creamery, The Point radio station, and the Vermont Department of Tourism and Marketing. Additional information about Open Studio Weekend can be found online at: www.vermontcrafts.com or by calling the Vermont Crafts Council at 802-223-3380.
